Our Story
I’ve spent most of my life on two wheels. I was scooting around my back yard in England at the same time as starting to walk which progressed to playing on my BMX in the 80s, then weekend rides on local trails, travelling further afield racing as mountain biking took off, fixing bikes in the back of my car and helping friends get their rigs ready for the next climb, race or adventure.
After years of mountain biking, I saw the same problem over and over: riders dealing with noisy drivetrains, sketchy brakes, and shops that felt rushed, hard to trust or just backed up for weeks. I started Smooth Ride Cycle Care as a garage hobby back in England to change that in the mid 90s.
Through the 2000s I concentrated on my son's BMX racing in the UK and Europe which kept me busy with bike building and repairs.
This shop is built for everyday riders and trail junkies alike. Whether you’re commuting to work, towing a kid trailer, out lesiure riding with friends & family, racing BMX or just dropping into your favorite descent, my goal is simple: keep your bike safe, smooth, and fun to ride.
Our Team
Currently just myself wrenching with my partner looking after the majority of the behind the scenes stuff. I’ve spent years wrenching on my own setups, helping friends in garages, and learning what it takes to keep a bike feeling dialed.
With Smooth Ride, we listen first, explain what’s going on in plain language, and treat your bike with the same care we give our own. No pressure, no upsell—just honest work to keep you rolling.
Our Values
Safety First
Brakes, bolts, and bearings all matter. We check the details so you can ride with confidence on every trip.
Honest Advice
We tell you what your bike needs, what can wait, and what’s optional—so you can choose what fits your budget and riding style.
Ride‑Ready Quality
Every tune and repair leaves the stand ready for real-world riding, not just looking good on the rack.
